A long time ago in a galaxy far, far…well not too far just a few minutes from me. The most AMAZING thing is coming to the runDisney series. Something I’ve been waiting for that has seemed like forever! They are FINALLY bringing THE STAR WARS HALF MARATHON EVENT!
runDisney is calling it the Star Wars Half Marathon-The Dark Side. Even the name is awesome! This race series will take place April 14-17, 2016. Just a few days after my birthday! I think this is a great way to celebrate it. Here is what the race series will have:
STAR WARS 5K a 3.1 miles distance around Epcot. It will have on-course entertainment. You’ll receive a race t-shirt and a finisher medallion. Super popular race with families.
STAR WARKS 10K a timed 6.2 miles race through Walt Disney World Resort. It will have on-course entertainment. You’ll receive a t-shirt and a finisher medal.
STAR WARS HALF MARATHON- THE DARK SIDE a timed 13.1 miles distance through Walt Disney World Resort. It will have lots of on-course entertainment. You’ll receive a t-shirt and finisher medal.
STAR WARS DARK SIDE CHALLENGE Perfect race where you can test the force of the Dark Side and complete this 2 day challenge by running the 10K on Saturday, and the Dark Side Half marathon on Sunday. Complete the two races and you will be awarded the Star Wars Dark Side Challenge Finisher Medal in addition to the Half Marathon and 10K Finisher Medals. So total of 3 medals! Its a total of 19.3 miles spread over 2 days(10K and Half marathon). Two courses throughout Walt Disney World Resorts. Lots of on-course entertainment. 3 t-shirts, one for each race and the dark side challenge. 2 medals along with a special Dark side challenge finisher medal.
Just keep in mind that you must sign up for the actual Dark Side Challenge to receive the challenge goodies. Registering for the 10K and half individually won’t get you the challenge finisher medal.
There is also the always fun Kid races for varies ages. Your little padawan can races and receive a t-shirt and finisher medallion.
Being a Star Wars nerd, I have been waiting for runDisney to bring it here, being they already have a Star Wars Half series in Disneyland. This is fun and exciting news and I hope you are ready for it! Registration opens on September 22, 2015. I highly advise you to be ready on registration day. This race will sell out quicker than you think. And know that if you are in a waiting queue on active.com(site where you’ll register) that DOES NOT guarantee your spot for registration. Be swift and be ready!
