As most of you already know, the D23 Expo was this past weekend. It’s probably every Disney Fans dream to attend. It is a huge convention where you can go shopping, attend presentations, and learn first hand information about upcoming changes and new plans coming to the parks!
Well Disney had lots of HUGE announcements, it was almost hard to keep up because they kept coming back to back. But I am going to break down the updates coming to Walt Disney World.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge
New details were revealed about the much-anticipated Star Wars-themed lands that will open in 2019 at Disneyland and Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios, including their name—Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. The lands are set in a remote trading port on the edge of wild space, a name that represents all the unknown adventure happening within.
You can either pilot the Millennium Falcon or be aboard a Star Destroyer inside a hangar bay. It will definitely be like no other. You will be immersed in the galaxy world blue milk and all.
Another update that had mixed reactions is one that will replace the classical Great Movie ride, also at Hollywood Studios. It is one of my favorite rides and I am sad to see it go. It will be replaced with Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway.
Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway will feature a new story and a new singable attraction theme song as well as a new experience we’re calling “2 1/2 D.” No glasses required. Walt Disney Imagineer Kevin Rafferty said teams are inventing new technologies that turn the flat world of a colorful cartoon short into a “dimensional display of amazingness.”
In 2021, Walt Disney World will turn 50 years old. So in honor of that 2 new attractions will be added to Epcot. Two new attractions are planned for Epcot: a Ratatouille-inspired attraction will be coming to the France Pavilion, similar to the attraction that opened at Disneyland Paris. And Ellen’s Energy Universe will be replaced by a brand-new E-ticket attraction themed to Guardians of the Galaxy will also open in time for the big anniversary. If you’re wondering why Epcot seemed like the perfect place to set the Guardians, it was revealed that Peter Quill (aka Star-Lord) actually paid a visit to the park when he was little. This promises to be an “out-of-this world adventure” with roots in an Epcot story. So this should be pretty exciting!
And in Epcot “food” news, there is a new restaurant coming where guests can travel high above the earth and enjoy a meal. It will be across from Missions:Space.
Some Big news coming to the Magic of Kingdom is that they are redoing the Tomorrowland area and bringing Tron to life! And from the renderings it will come out pretty cool! It is also set to for the celebration of the parks 50th birthday. Also coming to Magic Kingdom is a new live entertainment theater based on the iconic Willis Theater in 1920s Kansas City.
Star Wars-Themed Resort
Yes! That’s right! A Star Wars themed resort finally! It was rumored before but now it has been confirmed! You all know that when Disney says “It’s unlike anything that exists today,” they mean it. They have brought so much to life that I am fairly certain it will be mind-blowing. They ensure that everyone will have a unique adventure and once you leave earth you’ll discover a starship, full of characters, and stories, as you will be in full attire.
It is no secret that Walt Disney World is pretty big. There is also many resorts within property to stay at. One of the great things also that many guest look for and need is, transportation. Well, looks like that is also getting taken care of as well. Two new forms of transportation were that come with their own unique versions. Vehicles themed to Minnie Mouse will soon take guests from point to point around Walt Disney World by land, while the new Disney Skyliner will get them where they’d like to go by air. With gondolas themed to beloved Disney characters, the Disney Skyliner will connect Disney’s Art of Animation, Pop Century, and Caribbean Beach resorts and other locations with Disney’s Hollywood Studios and the International Gateway at Epcot.
Toy Story Land to Open in Summer 2018
The highly anticipated land coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios will open next summer!! I am a big Pixar fan and the Pixar area at Hollywood Studios in my favorite area right now. Even though it’s small, I enjoy all the details from the movies and now we have an opening time! We are getting close!
A 15th DVC Property is Coming to Walt Disney World
Disney Riviera Resort, coming to Walt Disney World Resort, near Epcot, will follow Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, which opens Monday, and become the 15th Disney Vacation Club Property. Bonus: Guests staying at Riviera Resort will be able to reach Disney’s Hollywood Studios and the International Gateway at Epcot via the brand-new Disney Skyliner. And of course the Disney cruise line is adding 3 new ships because adding 1 or 2 just wasn’t enough right!?!?
Phew! That was a lot of information and I hope I didn’t miss anything for Walt Disney World, but you can always keep up to the second with the Disney blog and also when they release exact dates too. I am pretty excited for the Star Wars stuff obviously! What are YOU excited for??
