Block the blue light

With so many people working from home, and students going to school virtually, we are spending more time in front of a screen. Whether it’d be a computer, TV, or phones. Problem with that is that they emit blue light. Not to be confused with natural blue light that comes from the sun.

Fun Fact! Artificial blue light is a short wavelength of visible blue light of high-energy and remains high all the time. Blue light, also known as high-energy visible blue light (HEV), has high frequency and short wavelengths similar to UV light.

Long exposure to blue light does have some damage to the retina and has been seen to have other symptoms:

  • Eye Strain
  • Headaches and Migraines
  • Dry Eyes
  • Change in sleeping pattern
  • Blurry Vision

Blue light blocking glasses have filters in their lenses that block or absorb blue light, and in some cases UV light, from getting through just as some sunglasses do. That means if you use these glasses when looking at a screen, especially after dark, they can help reduce exposure to blue light waves that can keep you awake.

Obviously being a chronic migraine fighter, I find ways to avoid triggers. Wearing blue light blocking glasses has helped. I was provided a pair to try out and I have been using for some time now. I sometimes do wear sunglasses when movies are too colorful, too much explosions or too bright. They are definitely migraine triggers. I have been using Migraine Shields. They offer two different types of lenses for their blue light blocking glasses.

Migraine Shields have

The Everyday lens

gives you full protection. It blocks 45% of blue light from your digital devices which emit at 455nm, which is 17x most blue light solutions. It also blocks over 93% of high energy visible light. This lens is built for optimal protection while wearing at work and is the most popular among eye care doctors.

The Episodic lens-

supports you with maximum relief for severe migraine days. It blocks 59% of blue light from your digital devices, which emit at 455nm, over 20x most blue light solutions. This lens has a bit more color and is our most popular home lens for those with migraine episodes or wearing while watching TV in the evening. Episodic migraines are those who get migraines >15 a month

Migraine Shields has several glasses to choose from and they are very light and very comfortable. I opted to try the Neville- Tortoise pair in the episodic lenses.

The lenses are a little bit more tinted and there is a noticeable difference when you put them on and you look at your computer screen or watch TV or what have you…If you want to give these glasses a try, I totally recommend them and you can SAVE with my code if you are curious: GELCYS20

You want to have as much relief as possible when you deal with migraines. You want to be comfortable and avoid triggers and pain as much as possible. And another thing that I like is that they aren’t heavy and don’t pinch behind the ears and almost feels like you aren’t wearing anything.
