Clearly not much has changed as far as racing events for 2021. So there are great opportunities for races and challenges thanks to companies getting creative.
Here is a new and fantastic challenge and this one has many reasons as to why it makes it stand out. Let me tell you all about it…
Enter the KT Tape Charity Series: Endurance Challenge Starting March 1, you have 30 days to target your choice of workout, earning training minutes for your team along the way. There is a way for you to track your progress and there are four different milestones to the event.
BENEFITING: KT Tape aims to help people work toward a goal bigger than themselves and to push past the limits. This challenge series brings back the competition aspect of fitness that we have all been missing, with a fantastic reason to compete – CHARITY!
WHEN: March 1 – 31
WHERE: ANYWHERE! Whether you love to workout! home, trails, gym – your workout can contribute to your progress!
HOW TO REGISTER: Register online using the links at the top of the page via the FitRankings platform. You will create a profile and link your favorite activity tracking device to help you log your workouts and accrue minutes toward the competition. There are two options as far as registering
– KT Tape Endurance Challenge Basic has no cost associated to participate.
-KT Tape Endurance Challenge+ costs $25 to participate. A portion of the registration fee will contribute to the winning charity, plus you will earn a completion prize from KT Tape that contains exclusive swag items and a series pin!
-Register (choose the upgraded registration option to donate to charity and earn a KT Tape Prize Pack, or the non-paid option)
-Pick your team (they are below)
-Sync your activity tracker to the FitRankings platform
-Log your workouts through the app to earn minutes for yourself and your team
-Work toward each milestone achievement to help your team win the competition!
You have the ability to connect an app or wearable to track your training minutes, or manually input your workouts into the widget. This makes it very easy to access and track progress.
– If you are walking, be sure to start and stop your app or wearable. Passive walking will not count!
– Be sure to end your workouts accordingly. You can edit workouts if needed.
– Make sure to sync your data at the end of each workout.
– As you train and upload your workouts, you will start to accrue minutes toward the challenge.
You can help your team and charity with the winning spot, or do what I do…use this challenge as a way to keep yourself motivated and going. The bottom line is that you will be working alongside individuals like yourself that want their fitness to mean more than just personal progress. The five different teams are represented by different high-profile athletes, leading all of the participants in a competition to earn minutes and raise money toward the winning team’s charity designation. All five charities support reputable causes and are excited for your help!
Team Brandon Lyons
After graduating from Penn State in 2012, Brandon took a corporate job in Washington DC. In May of 2014, he was involved in a freak accident that broke his T5/T6 vertebrae leaving him paralyzed from the chest down. He returned to work four months later and completed a marathon five months after the accident. Brandon eventually moved to San Diego and met Ironman champion David Bailey who helped him find his passion for handcycling. In 2017, Brandon moved to the Olympic Training Center in Colorado and in 2019 was named to his first U.S National Team. He went on to win two silver medals at the Para Pan-American Championships and a silver medal at the 2019 UCI Para Cycling World Championships.
His charity is CHALLENGED ATHLETES FOUNDATION (CAF) The Challenged Athletes Foundation® (CAF) is a world leader in helping people with physical challenges lead active, healthy lifestyles. CAF believes that participation in physical activity at any level increases self-esteem, encourages independence and enhances quality of life.
Team Meb Keflezighi
The 2004 Olympic Marathon Silver Medalist in Athens is the only runner in history to win an Olympic medal, the New York City Marathon, and Boston Marathon. His famous Boston Marathon victory came one year after the 2013 finish line bombings. Meb is a four-time U.S. Olympian and a twenty-three time U.S. Champion.
His charity is NATIONAL BLACK MARATHONERS ASSOCIATION (NBMA) The NBMA is the largest and oldest, national, not-for-profit organization that supports Black American distance runners. Our objectives are to: – Encourage Black Americans and others to pursue a healthy life-style through long distance running and walking. – Serve as a vehicle for Black American distance runners across the nation to meet in mass at a single marathon. –
Team Matt McElroy
The former Northern Arizona University All-American distance runner is looking to make his first Olympic team. Matt ended 2019 with three consecutive ITU World Cup wins to go along with his second place at the ITU WTS Leeds triathlon, the first WTS podium by an American male in ten years.
His charity is USA TRIATHLON FOUNDATION The Challenged Athletes Foundation® (CAF) is a world leader in helping people with physical challenges lead active, healthy lifestyles. CAF believes that participation in physical activity at any level increases self-esteem, encourages independence and enhances quality of life
Team Molly Huddle
After graduating high school, she would continue her academics and athletics at the University of Notre Dame, where she would become a 10-time All American. The two-time Olympian is one of America’s most decorated long distance runners, having amassed 28 US Championships and numerous American Records.
Her charity is USATF EMERGING FEMALE COACHING GRANT The Emerging Female Coaching Grant is provided by USATF and provides a select number of minority, women track and field coaches the opportunity to attend USATF Coaching Education Level 1 or 2 Schools.
Team Oksana Masters
Oksana was born in the Ukraine with both legs damaged by radiation poisoning from the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. After being adopted and moving to the US, she had both legs amputated, her left at age 9 and the right at age 14. Her mother suggested she give adaptive rowing a try and instantly fell in love with the sport, which led her to her first Paralympics and in 2012, she won a bronze medal. Shortly thereafter, she began Nordic skiing and cycling and would go on to win another seven Paralympic medals.
The cool thing is that there are charities, pro athletes, athletes like you and I, and people from all over the world taking part in this. You might find your true strength, your true capacity, and you might motivate others with your dedication and willing to better yourself.
Her charity is KINDNESS WINS is a platform for kindness, on and off the field of play. By identifying and supporting professional athletes as our champions, and elevating organizations and individuals who show and encourage kindness through sport, we are demonstrating that even in the most competitive environment, acts of kindness are possible.
