Who do YOU run for?

Today was supposed to be a rest day. No running. But I had a thought, I wanted go for a run to honor someone. I don’t do it often and I needed to do it. I had to go for a run. I suddenly had the urge to go. And it was raining and thundering early, but when I had the thought, the weather suddenly cleared up like it was meant to be.

As I took off running, I thought about the person I was honoring. This person struggles daily. They have pain every day and you wouldn’t even know. Every now and then they’ll post a smiling photo on instagram, and behind that smile there are battles no one knows about. They have also overcome several physical obstacles too that have popped up. 3 brain tumors, a stroke, a severe case of Fibromyalgia, and Scoliosis.

How do I know so much about the person I chose to honor on my run tonight? Because it’s me. Sometimes you have to remind yourself who you are and why you do what you do. I run because it reminds me of my strengths. Yes, running isn’t always smooth sailing for me, sometimes I have to stop and go home, or not run at all but for the most part I can and I WILL.

Running reminds me of how strong I can be in the moments I feel weak. In those moments where I am crying in pain when my Fibro is so flared up I am sleeping on the floor or crying in pain because taking a shower hurts. When taking a breath hurts because my rotated ribs from my Scoliosis is painful. When my chronic migraines make my go blind and make me sick and I can’t even stand up.

That is why I decided to honor myself today and everything I have been able to overcome thus far. And you should also remember YOU. You are the most important person in your life and every once in a while you should take a step back and remember your battles and the strength you had to overcome it. Your battles make you stronger and help you grown. Even at your weakest moments your strength will help you make it through. Give yourself the credit you deserve for making it through. Be proud of yourself for surviving them.

You are AMAZING.

You are STRONG.
